HEXCEL is a creative MIDI generator designed to help you discover new musical ideas through a unique hexagonal pitch grid and scenes-based sequencing. This article walks you through installing HEXCEL on both macOS and Windows.

System Requirements


  • Plugin Formats Supported: VST3 (Windows and macOS), AU (macOS only)

  • Operating Systems:

    • macOS 10.13 or later

    • Windows 10 or later (64-bit only)

  • DAW Compatibility: Your DAW must support MIDI routing from MIDI FX plugins to instrument tracks.


Downloading HEXCEL

  • Download the installer from your ADSR user account or from the purchase confirmation email.

  • Select the appropriate installer version for your operating system (macOS or Windows).


Installation on macOS

  1. Open the downloaded .pkg installer file.

  2. Follow the installer prompts to complete installation.

  3. The plugin will be installed to the following standard locations:

    • AU: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/

    • VST3: /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/

  4. Open your DAW and perform a plugin rescan if needed.

  5. Load HEXCEL as a MIDI FX plugin within your DAW (e.g., in Logic Pro under MIDI FX > AU MIDI-controlled Effects).


Installation on Windows

  1. Run the downloaded .exe installer file.

  2. Follow the prompts and choose your preferred installation location (default path usually is C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3).

  3. Complete the installation.

  4. Open your DAW and rescan your plugin list to recognize HEXCEL.

  5. Load HEXCEL as a MIDI FX plugin in your DAW.


Verifying Installation

  • Open your DAW.

  • Insert HEXCEL as a MIDI effect plugin.

  • Route HEXCEL’s MIDI output to a software instrument to hear the generated MIDI.

  • Refer to your DAW’s MIDI routing documentation if you have issues hearing output.


Troubleshooting: 


HEXCEL Not Showing in Your DAW


  • Verify you installed the correct plugin format:

    • AU for Logic Pro (macOS)

    • VST3 for other DAWs and Windows.

  • Check that your DAW’s plugin scanning paths include the HEXCEL installation folders.

  • Try rescanning your plugin list or restarting your DAW.
